Where is the Art?

Well it has been quite a long time since I last blogged. The reason is simple I have had nothing to say which if you actually knew me is quite rare, although now I have. After watching the British Masters on the BBC, not the Golf the series on painting I have felt inspired to try and do something different. The world at the moment is in turmoil nothing seems to be going right. Famine in Somalia, War in Afghanistan, Libya, Phone hacking scandals, Rupert Murdoch, Rebecca Brooks, David Cameron in cahoots to run the country, the basic collapse of the of the world’s economy the list is endless.

But where is the Art ? who is producing the art that will stand the test of time, so that when people look back at this period of our history there will be seminal images that encapsulate the feelings and the mood of the world? Artists throughout history have been responsible for some of the most iconic images of their time. The presenter of the BBC series Dr James Fox said that basically at the moment within the art world there is a general trend towards trying to be too different and more crazy and sensational, but in his opinion he believed that we should try to be a bit more ordinary. I agree with him. Look at the paintings made by Coldstream, Nash and Spencer.

What will the unmade bed and the pickled cow say to the humans of the future. That we were a bunch of stupid gullible idiots that deserved everything that we got. If you can convince someone that this is art then you can convince them into believing just about anything. The media lie to us the politicians lie to us isn’t it about time that artists around the world stood up and told the truth.
